Friends of Portuguese Studies at Rhode
Island College (FPS) is an organization composed of faculty, alumni,
students and community members who are dedicated to the advancement
of Portuguese Studies and Lusophone World Studies at Rhode Island
College.
Since its establishment in 2003, the Friends have worked on a
volunteer basis to assist the faculty in providing enriching
opportunities not only for the college community and the students
that it serves but also for the Luso-American community of Rhode
Island. It functions as the support group for the Institute for
Portuguese and Lusophone World Studies, an affiliate of the David E.
Sweet Center for Public Policy, at the College.
Its activities involve supporting Institute initiatives in such
areas as: fundraising, planning of cultural and scholarly events,
professional development workshops, community outreach projects and
student support programs.
